Nottawa Township was the center of the Notawasepe Potawatamie Reservation which was the home of the ancestors of the Nottawasippi Potawatamies starting in 1821.

St. Joseph County Conservation District works with partners to promote the preservation of ground and surface water, sustainable agricultural practices, irrigation efficiency, environmental education, ecological stewardship, and community-centered initiatives.
Throughout the year, the Conservation District organizes several fundraising events, such as the spring tree sale, annual meeting, and local food dinner, to further our mission.

St. Joseph County has been awarded CDBG funds for a home improvement program through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA).
St. Joseph County plans to assist homeowners with improvements to their homes that may include windows, insulation, siding, plumbing and electrical repairs, roof replacement, furnaces and air conditioners, and other repairs.
